Thread: This is how Ford drivers should race!

This is how Ford drivers should race!

This article is from Yahoo sports and IMO is pretty indicitive why Cherolet wins so much. The drivers race with passion for the manufactuer. The last few lines are the most important. Our Ford guys need to learn that!

When Tony Stewart runs down his list of people to thank this Thanksgiving, Jeff Burton should be at the top of his list. Without Burton’s help, Carl Edwards – not Stewart – would be the 2011 Sprint Cup champion.

On the last lap of the penultimate race in the Chase at Phoenix, Stewart ran fourth and Burton third. As Stewart approached Burton’s bumper, Burton moved over without putting up a fight, allowing Stewart to take third and gain one more championship point.

That proved to be the difference.

When the final tally came in, Stewart and Edwards were tied atop the standings with 2,403 points, with Stewart taking the title based on the tiebreaker – most wins. Had he finished fourth at Phoenix, Stewart would have finished with 2,402 points, meaning Edwards would be the champion.

Why didn’t Burton put up a fight when Stewart closed on his bumper?

As Yahoo! Sports reported prior to last Sunday’s season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, both drive for Chevrolet. As fellow Chevy driver and Burton teammate Kevin Harvick explained, that loyalty runs deep – especially when the driver Stewart was chasing was in a Ford.

“I think everybody in a Chevrolet would rather see a Chevrolet win, just knowing how much it means to the manufacturer,” Harvick said last Friday. “So you go about cutting him some slack on restarts, little things like that and on pit road, whatever the case may be.”

When asked point blank about the scenario at Phoenix, Harvick left no doubt about what went down.

“Burton let [Stewart] go,” he said.

IMO you can't put it all on Burton letting Stewart go. in a 36 race season it's easy to point to one specific thing that happened late in the season & blame as the reason why Carl didn't win the championship. My reason is that Carl didn't win is that he didn't win enough races & finished 2nd 6 or 7 times.

As much as I hate it to say it, Stewart deserved to win winning half of the chase races.

My reason for posting the article wasn't because of the Burton thing it was to show the passion with which Chevrolet and Chevrolet drivers approach racing. I want to see that same fire from Ford and our drivers. Ford has always seemed to be satisfied with being competitive where Chevy wants to cram it down your throat. When I look at the good drivers Ford has lost to Chevy over the years it makes me sick. You rarely, if ever, see a good Chevy driver leave for a Ford.

Also it doesn't hurt that they have more competitive top teams. It's not going to help losing the ....

I would agree if his team did it alone but they didn't. Please explain how does a driver come back and win all these races
when Stewart complained all during the season about his car and why he didn't have the power that the Ford cars had. I can't remember exactly his words but I'm sure Andrew remembers. You can bet it wasn't a miracle

Carl's team didn't have any outsider help but only within their own stable. The Roush crew chiefs talk among themself with ideas but you can bet they didn't set up Carl's car. There isn't any convincing me that Hendricks and Chevy engineers were not helping Stewart win the cup. Carl had Roush and that is all he had.
You don't bring outside help. You should be working with the same people who were responsible in getting you into the chase.

We know that NASCAR doesn't see anything wrong with it, but if it was FORD, there would be A NEW RULE THE VERY NEXT DAY

(not a conspiracy merely an opinion)

CAN YOU SEE NHL PUTTING IN PLAYERS FROM ANOTHER TEAM TO HELP THEM WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP.

Yates was helping Roush and Mark Martin going way back to 1990. RYR even gave Martin a car for the season ending race at Atlanta.

The reason so many Ford drivers have lost championships to Earnhardt, Gordon or Stewart so many times is that they were too passive and not aggressive enough, and fell for the Chevy bear traps. The two Ford drivers with the most cahones were both lost in 1993, and third most was Ernie Irvan who would have easily beaten Earnhardt a year later if not for the practice crash at MIS in August of that year. Martin should never have lost to Earnhardt in 1990, or to Stewart 12 years later. Stewart played the same mind games on Edwards that Waltrip laid on Bill Elliott in 1985. Heck, Elliott almost fell for it again three years later with Rusty. DJ probably should have won at least one or even two more championships as well.

I found that I really didn't care as much this time though. Heck, they all run the same shaped car bodies anyway these days. Car bodies that bare no resemblance to their street counterparts. I've never really connected emotionally with COT car bodies that have Ford stickers on them, or emotionally against their GM, Dodge or Toyota stickered counterparts. It's just too phoney to try and do so.

RYR even gave Martin a car for the season ending race at Atlanta.>>>>>>>>>>>>>> That was way before "The Chase" was even thought of. It's a whole didn't scenario now. Championship is now determined in 10 races. When ten teams have won due to the driver, CC, Pit crew and any one attach to that DRIVER should be INVOLVED WITH THE RUNNING OF THAT TEAM.. No help from an entirely different owners team be allowed to help another team owner team to win a championship. ..

To run in the chase ,it should be with the SAME DRIVER AND HIS TEAM WHO RAN IN THE REG SEASON ONLY.

Who has ever heard of teams picking anyone winning a CHAMPIONSHIP by picking from other teams for help---
    TOTALLY RIDICULOUS.

There's not enough Ford drivers for this to make a difference. Half the field is practically in Chevys and there is what, 5 or 6 competitive Fords?

and this makes it right???????? I hope that isn't what you are saying. What Chevy did is what they always do, because they have the numbers (oh lets not forget Nascar) they will screw and cheat any time or any body whenever they see fit.

Kind of a random tangent but does anyone know why Vickers wasn't parked? What he did repeatedly was just as bad as Kyle Busch tbh.

NASCAR said the Phoenix wreck looked like a racing incident to them.

My guess is because Kyle did it under caution & Vickers incident was under green?

It looked like something people do on a NASCAR game...just use the other car to slow them down.

Kenseth's brakes were failing so he slowed down in the middle of the straightaway, as a result (and I'm giving him a little extra credit than he's due) Brian ran up on him faster than he expected. Alot of drivers had brake issues during that race.

Brian admitted at Homestead that it was intentional. Nothing to do with brakes.

I'd buy that if Vickers didn't confess and forewarn Matt that he was planning on wrecking him.

If Vickers is still in a car in 2012 I hope KENSETH gives him a nice THANK YOU, (altho Kenseth isn't the type).

if you watched the replay there was no doubt, anyways Vickers had already "payed back" Kenseth at martinsville. of course that was after matt had his big wreck so it wasn't that big of a deal, but still...okay, they were "even," no need for that.
