UPS scaling back sponsorship
According to breaking news on Sirius, UPS will sponsor 4-8 races on the 99 with Carl Edwards. They will not sponsor the 6 car at all in 2012.

Dave Moody now saying that he is hearing that the UPS deal could still be salvaged, but they are ONLY interested in being on the 99 car. Willing to do full season with Carl, but that would require Fastenal to move to another Roush car.
From these rumors, sounds like Aflac is leaving.

Re: UPS scaling back sponsorship
Jayski article ....
[ARTICLE=UPS to cut back NASCAR sponsorship:]UPS plans to cut back dramatically on its support of Roush Fenway Racing's #6 Ford driven by David Ragan in 2012, SportsBusiness Daily reported. Sources familiar with the company's plan said it will drop its full-season primary sponsorship of the #6 car and sponsor 4-8 races at RFR in '12. The company is in talks to shift its sponsorship to Carl Edwards, who drives the team's #99 Ford. RFR president Steve Newmark declined to comment and said the team is still in discussions with UPS. The company did not return a call seeking comment. The move will further reduce the number of sponsors paying for their logo to appear in all 36 NASCAR races. UPS was one of seven sponsors slated to be on the same NASCAR hood for all 36 Sprint Cup races. The other full-season primary sponsors are #11-FedEx [34 races, Sports Clips at Darlington, Charter Comm at Atlanta], #20-Home Depot, #48-Lowe's, #27-Menard's, #2-Miller Lite and #56-NAPA Auto Parts. (Red Bull and Furniture Row own the teams that feature their logos.) Though UPS won't renew its full-season primary sponsorship at RFR, sources said the company is expected to renew its official partnership with NASCAR. It has been the sport's official delivery company since 2000.(Sporting News/SportsBusiness Journal)(9-2-2011)[/ARTICLE]

Very interesting....Wonder what Jack is going to do about the 6 cup car...Makes ONE wonder,if Jack might NOT hav a choice to drop some NW rides????? IDK,but sure seems like RFR has issues with sponsors....sucks big time....

Re: UPS scaling back sponsorship
With this announcement, I think Ragan is OUT. Look for either 3 Cup teams at RFR next year, or Ricky Stenhouse making the move to the Cup Series in the 6.

Re: UPS scaling back sponsorship
Sorry, but I just don't see Roush going to 3 teams. JMO
If Stenhouse doesn't get a cup ride in 2012, he will get an offer elsewhere and leave Roush. He definitely will not be willing to run another year in the NW series if, and I say IF he wins the NW championship. I"m not even sure if Trevor would stay if the WOOD BROS don't offer a good possibility for a full year contract to run the #21.
THE FORD TEAM OWNERS BETTER START WORKING FULL TIME AND FIND SOME SPONSORS. Maybe Roush should start thinking about lowering the price for sponsoring the Roush cars

Re: UPS scaling back sponsorship
There are no open Cup rides, so I don't know where you think they are going to go. Bayne has already said that he is set to run a part time deal with the Woods in about 15-17 races in 2012. They are looking for more sponsorship, but that is the plan for now. He also said he hopes to run full time in NW again next year.
Ricky has really performed in the Nationwide car, but if he gets the 6 car next year, I think they should still keep him in NW for at least a part time schedule. He still needs to get laps and learn about these cars. Maybe Ricky and Carl could share a NW car and Trevor could get a full time NW deal.

Re: UPS scaling back sponsorship
But what about Ragan? Isn't he signed with RFR for past this season in some capacity? Or can they release him?

Re: UPS scaling back sponsorship
I'm sure there is some clause about sponsorship in there... they may have to pay him, but they don't have to give him a car. I'm pretty confident that he is on his way out. The win at Daytona had me thinking he may stay, but he has not backed that up in recent weeks, and now UPS is backing out, so I think Ragan is gone.
Maybe they could give him a NW ride ... the "step down" has really worked well for Reed Sorenson and Elliott Sadler.

Why would they release Ragan before his contract is up?

Re: UPS scaling back sponsorship
with the Woods in about 15-17 races in 2012. ... Almost as good as Carl and maybe by that time, sponsors will be more available when the economy has improved.
I also have heard there is talk about Chris Buescher might be coming over to Nascar. (Truck or NW) This kid is AWESOME. I was told a very long time ago to follow this kid. I believe he just 14 years old and was amazed many time to see top fives, than wonder :"How did you do that" Crappy equipment and still running the old work horse FORD engine from the ninties. He is second in points and I can't understand how he did. Second to Ty Dillion, racing against Ty's GRANDPA CHILDRESS TOP NOTCH EQUIPMENT.
I would love to see them put that new FORD engine in Chris's car and all Ty will be seeing is Chris's back bumper
They have just tested the new FORD Engine in ARCA but they tested the engine in Frank Kimmels car.
I just hope this KID who has the very best chance of making it to the top will not be screwed by a Team owner the same way that Stephen Leight was screwed.

No doubt about it JIMMY WINS HIS 6TH CHAMPIONSHIP
Thanks Carl. When it's time for a NEW Contract , sign the dam contract THAN YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO CONCENTRATE ON WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP. JMO that it doesn't work the other way around.

The Chase doesn't star for 2 weeks. The championship race hasn't even started yet. Way too early to throw in the towel!

Re: UPS scaling back sponsorship
Have you been watching the racing for the past few months? Does anyone in the Roush Camp look to be a challange to Jimmy or even come close? They just CAN'T seem to get the job done. Not on the Cup Side anyway. What makes this so impossible to believe, THEY CAN'T EVEN WIN WITH GREAT CARS. Jimmy's car wasn't half as good as Kenseth's or Carl's . The big difference is Jimmy has Chad, the best in the business and that's what wins CHAMPIONSHIP.
Oh and please don't say Carl's Slide wasn't caused by the STUPID (I don't use this word very often) RIDICULOUS CHARADES everyone endured these past few months. I can sure tell you one thing, it sure as hell o didn't help.

Whatever. Carl and Matt finished 4th and 5th today. That's not bad. Sure, they didn't close the deal and win, but they had fast cars. They can get the other stuff working during the Chase and go win it.
