Buescher, with Damage, Battles to 12th at Salem
SALEM, Ind. (April 11, 2010) - Chris Buescher made his first ARCA Series start of the 2010 season this past weekend at Salem Speedway.
Buescher had an impressive sixth-place qualifying effort, but damage at the start of the race would leave him battling his way back through the field. Buescher kept his focus and picked up spots on the track after repairs were made to his Ford and was turning lap times faster then the leader, but when the checkered flag waved he crossed the finish line 12th.
The first practice session was also Buescher's first time in an ARCA car since last season and the youngster picked right up where he left off. Under the direction of Gary Roulo, Buescher utilized his practice time to fine tune the No. 17 ApplianceZone.com-Sundber/David Ragan Fan Club/Shriners Hospitals Ford for the race. When it came time to qualify an early draw worked as a disadvantage, but Buescher was still able to qualify sixth for the Kentuckia Ford Dealers 200.
Coming to the green flag the field got bunched up, causing contact on the track for multiple cars, including Buescher who had nowhere else to go. The contact resulted in a damaged nose and fenders on the No. 17. Buescher pitted for repairs, but wound up losing six laps to the field. With a repaired Ford, Buescher set his focus on making up lost positions on the track. He did just that, making up two laps under green flag racing and another by being in the "lucky dog" position when the caution flag flew.
"We had a really fast Ford in the race, and overall the race went pretty well," said Buescher. "Unfortunately we had some bad luck, but hopefully we get the bad luck out of the way early and can move on and have some good things happen at Toledo. I have a new pit crew this year and they did a great job, overall it was a good start to the season, just a little bad luck at the start."
Chris Buescher's next ARCA Racing Series start will be at Toledo Speedway on Sunday, May 23rd.
