What's up with the Ford FR9 engine? One thing that could help the Roush squad down the road is Ford's new FR9 engine, which is said to have improved cooling that allows the teams to use more tape on the nose. That makes more front downforce and helps the cars turn in the corner. So far, only the part-time Wood Brothers Racing team is using the FR9 in every race. The Roush Fenway Racing cars are phasing it in gradually, with no definitive timetable on when it will be run exclusively. Asked about when the FR9 would be in his car, #16-Greg Biffle said he wasn't sure. "That is a good question, I don't know the answer," Biffle said Friday at PIR. "I know they are working hard at it and it is a logistical nightmare. There are a lot of parts and pieces that need working. You are going to have to have 16 engines a week and have to rebuild every single one of them down to the pistons and rings. There is a supply issue getting all the parts and castings and making sure it is ready for competition. I am surprised more of our guys aren't running it week to week."(SPEEDtv)(4-13-2010)~jayski

I thought I read somewhere that sometime in MAY ALL FORDS WILL BE RUNNING THE FR9. (with the exception of FRONT ROW and the #26 car)---I was thinking maybe at Charlotte??????????????

Biffle's number of 16 engines a week is on the low side, even. You have to have 16 just for Roush Fenway (4 engines, 4 back-ups) and RPM (4 engines, 4 back-ups)! That doesn't even account for Front Row, Wood Bros, or the Nationwide teams!

And, yatesracing, Jack Roush said they will all run the FR9 at the All Star race.

Last I heard, they were going to re-evaluate the situation after the All Star and decide what to do going forward.

Even FORD FANS are asking the same question. After all the hype (2 T0 THREE YEARS) to still be waiting for this engine to be on the track. Funny when the other mfg (you know which one i'm talking about) start talking about Chevy coming out with a new engine , its on the track within a few months. Ford has been talking about this GREAT NEW ENGINE and have had more set backs with the time period in running this FR9. This has led us wondering if maybe this NEW ENGINE isn't all that they thought it was. Now this new excuse "we don't have the parts to run our NEW ENGINE This is hogwash. Period.

That's not so... Chevy had an incredibly lengthy time between the announcement of the R7 engine and its full implementation. RCR ran it at a few races in 07, but it did not go into full effect until mid-season 2008.

The only one running the FR9 is Elliot and also was tested on the superspeed tracks. They should of had Front Row testing these engines and test a few here and there with the other teams. All they have been doing is making excuses and changed the time schedule for these engines. I wouldn't be surprise, maybe I'll be upset, but Ford or Roush/Yates changing the schedule again for all FORDS running that FR9 until 2011. Woildn't surprise me one bit.

Ford has some bigger fish to fry right now--like finding out how to replace Kasey Kahne and Budweiser and how to make the cars handle better.

<<<how to make the cars handle better>>>so true, so true but one thing for sure If they don't give us more H/P and better set ups on our cars and FAST=== Kasey will not be one of FORDS Problem. We are a medioca team at the present and by not testing this new engine , whether its good or bad we are finished. The only way to really test this new Engine is to race it and find out if there is a problem and that is the only way they going to find our what the FR9 can or cannot do. When all we get are excuses, than all you can expect are negative thoughts.
