Jayski is reporting that Home Depot is looking to move away from Joe Gibbs Racing to Roush Fenway Racing as a sponsor of the 99 Ford and Carl Edwards.
...maybe something good is going to come out of Carl Edwards negotiating with Gibbs, huh?

That would be great if that happens! I guess they're tired of getting beaten by Lowes in the home improvement area. Joey is still young & has talent but it might take a little while longer. But they had to know top-5s & wins weren't going to come overnight with a 20 year old. Thought they would've had more patience.......oh well, it's not official yet.

I still can't believe JGR rushed Joey in too soon. He needed at least 2-3 more years in Nationwide. Could they REALLY not find another driver for that car until he was ready? I'm sure someone like Martin Truex would have taken the ride (he ended up signing with a TRD team anyway).
Too bad that decision COULD cost JGR's #20 their sponsor.

it sounds, to me at least, like they threw joey in the 20 car expected him to win right off the bat....which is not realistic. i thought they were committed to joey long term.

Remember, they all called Joey "Sliced Bread" wen he first appeared on the scene. Big mistake: they thought he was better than he was. He may yet develop, though. I hope so, as he seems likable enough (am not pulling for Toyotas, though). Would be great to see Home Depot come over to Roush, though. Will have to wait & see. I take this to mean Gibbs couldn't lure Clint Bowyer over from RCR (another rumor).

Joey was "thrown" into that ride because Tony Stewart left. Had Tony stayed on, Joey would have run another year or two in NW before making the move to Cup, in what would have likely been a 4th JGR car. But, given the circumstances, they would have really only needed a driver in the 20 for a year or two, and no one would want to take a "temporary" ride like that ... so Joey was their only choice, really.

I still think Joey is the real deal. I think he has a bright future. Two drivers FORD will not have that I wish we did have --Joey and Justin Allgaier

I don't think so. If they do decide to come over to ROUSH, I'm sure they will be welcome in a big way. I will believe it, if and when it happens.

Question- would Tony have left Gibbs if they wouldn't have switched to Toyota & stuck with running Chevy's?

PROBABLY but who is going to turn down HENDRICKS who like Roush needed a Alliance with another team. An alliance with Smoke look like the best way to go. Hendricks knew Smoke never really wanted to leave the Chevy Camp . Sooooo the team was formed.
Alliance w/Smoke would be the best way to work around the 4 car rule. After all Roush did it

Question- would Tony have left Gibbs if they wouldn't have switched to Toyota & stuck with running Chevy's?That's a good question. I seem to recall a lot of talk that Tony was not happy at all about switching to Toyota & rumors were flying that he'd be gone at season's end, which is what happened. I'm sure Hendrick, astute businessman that he is, saw the opportunity to form a satellite team & then it probably didn't take much coaxing. So I think Tony wanted to get back to Chevy & Hendrick greased the skids for it to happen.:99::9:
