KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- NASCAR is looking into reports of an altercation between team owner Richard Childress and owner/driver Kyle Busch, NASCAR officials confirmed Saturday.

Details were sketchy, but the altercation reportedly occurred after Saturday's Camping World Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway, won by Clint Bowyer, who drives for Childress in the Sprint Cup Series.

Pit reporter Ray Dunlap posted the following on his Twitter account after the race: "Hot news from the track. Grandpa Childress put a whipping on Kyle Busch in the Truck garage. Look for big sun glasses on kubu sun."

(Dunlap actually meant "KyBu," the twitter shorthand for Kyle Busch. "KuBu" refers to brother Kurt Busch.)

Later, Jeff Gluck of SB Nation reported, "Kyle Busch was put into a headlock and punched several times by famed team owner Richard Childress before falling to the ground, according to several people with direct knowledge of an altercation ..."

Busch finished sixth in his No. 18 Toyota after racing hard for fifth against RCR driver Joey Coulter, who passed Busch for the position on the final lap. After the checkered flag, Busch drove up beside Coulter and bumped the No. 22 truck.

Bill Janitz, a spokesman for Busch, told The Associated Press in an email that "there won't be any comment tonight." A phone message left for Richard Childress Racing seeking comment was not immediately returned.

Busch is on probation for all NASCAR events through June 15, the result of a post-race, pit-road confrontation between Busch and Kevin Harvick at Darlington.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

HAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!Omg.....WTG Richard Childress....I am sure Richard is tired of Kyle "bumping" into his race cars, and had enough...GOOD...I hope Nascar suspends Kyle from anymore Truck series,as HE is on "probation" right? Kyle is a low down immature driver, who I am tired of HIS tantrums....

UPDATE 3: NASCAR officials met with Richard Childress and Kyle Busch Sunday morning at Kansas Speedway. Later NASCAR president Mike Helton met with the media and said that, in NASCAR's view, Kyle Busch did not do anything during or after race to violate his probation. NASCAR considered ejecting Childress from the track but decided to allow him to stay because his teams needed a race-day leader. However, Childress will have restrcitions on where he can go during the race and it not likely to be allowed on pit road. In addition, further penalties to Childress will be announced by Tuesday. Following is NASCAR's complete statement: "NASCAR has reviewed the incident involving Richard Childress and Kyle Busch after the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race Saturday at Kansas Speedway. We have met with all parties involved and have determined what happened yesterday is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by NASCAR. Richard Childress's actions were not appropriate and fell far short of the standard we expect of owners in this sport. We have met with Childress this morning and made our position very clear to him. Further, we expect he will make it clear to all in his organization to ensure this situation does not escalate any further. We will announce our actions regarding this incident Monday. Kyle Busch remains on probation with NASCAR and we continue to watch his actions carefully. However, we have determined that Kyle's involvement in this incident does not violate his probation and no further action is required.

GO FIGURE. WTG RICHARD. ;D

This deal was owner vs. owner/driver. NOT owner vs driver like they are making it sound like. I'm afraid that Jenny is correct. Shrub will get off scott free.:-x
As far as I'm concerned someone should have done this long before now. Kinda funny that it took a 65 yr old man to do it. :p

The funny thing is that Richard, at 65, could have kicked Kyle's 20-something year old butt I he had wanted to.

Kyle's behavior started when he was replaced at Hendricks. He wanted to make sure he was going to SHOW THEM and that is when he became "THE BAD BOY OF NASCAR"

I don't like him because he is in a TOY-ODER. Only wish he was in a FORD. ONE HELLUVA DRIVER

I'm glad he's not in a Ford! I agree with Jack Roush - "I've had all of the Busch brothers that I can stand." I actually considered Kurt my second favorite driver for a little while but quickly realized what jerk he was.

what jerk he was. >>>>that may be true but still a helluva driver and that is what I like to see in a FORD CAR. At all the races the ONLY DRIVER I FEAR is Kyle. The only driver I hope has a problem with his car is Kyle, anything that can make me kinda relax a little during a race. JJ, Harvick, Hamlin and certainly no one else out there because I believe most of our TOP FORD DRIVER COULD HANDLE IT.

NASCAR has fined owner Richard Childress $150,000 and placed him on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31 for violating Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing involved in an altercation in the garage area) of the 2011 NASCAR rule book. The violation occurred following the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race June 4 at Kansas Speedway. The probation includes all NASCAR-sanctioned events.
STATEMENT FROM NASCAR: "The penalty we have announced today for Richard Childress reflects NASCAR's response to the incident at Kansas Speedway on Saturday. We feel this action is appropriate and are confident all parties involved understand our position on this matter and will move forward appropriately."(NASCAR)

Kyle in a Ford .... Ouch! :( I agree with Andrew.
He might be "ONE HELLUVA DRIVER" but his overall actions would never permit me to be a fan. He's a prime example of why I could never be a Owner/Team or Mfg Fan. Having a driver like him.... I'd be embarrassed to admit that I root for him. ~JMO

The following is a statement by Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing, regarding the penalty announced today by NASCAR regarding an incident he was involved in June 4 incident at Kansas Speedway: First of all, I'm responsible for my actions, plain and simple. As you know, I am a very principled person and have a passion for what we do at Richard Childress Racing. I believe passionately in defending my race teams and my sponsor partners. In this instance, I let that passion and my emotions get the best of me. I accept the penalty NASCAR announced today and, as a company, we will now focus on this week's races at Pocono Raceway and Texas Motor Speedway.(Richard Childress Racing PR)(6-6-2011) Again WTG Richard! You'd never get a statement like this out of Kyle.;)

Weeell, don't really care what a DRIVER does, personality wise. He isn't coming over for dinner. All I expect from a driver is to win "RACES" I don't have to like him.

Why did Earnhardt have so many fans? Maybe because he was a nice guy or because these fans love to see him knock other driver out of his way to win. I was never ever a fan of his but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have wanted him to drive a FORD. He got the job done any which way he could. "The Intimidator" His FANS loved it but when Kyle does it, IT'S A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY.

Personally I didn't like the guy from day one. That might have changed if he was driving a FORD.

NOT a SR fan at all...But did SR retaliate after the race? I don't know,I didn't follow Nascar much when SR was racing. I do know,he would MOVE a driver out of the way,and would hit back if another hit him first. But was it after the race....This deal of drivers *including Carl* "getting back" on pit road,or cool down lap,is NOT RIGHT. For NASCAR NOT TO PUNISH KYLE FOR HIS "KINDERGARTEN TATICS" After the race proves PROBATION MEANS JACK SQUAT. HOW many times is KYLE going to "get away with this"...If Joe Gibbs is the "nice person" I hear so many say,why does HE allow KYLE to keep this up....I wonder if Jack would allow his drivers to continue to "get back" after races are done??? OR would HE maybe SIT the DRIVER down and say "ENOUGH"! JOe Gibbs is responsible for HIS drivers, maybe HE should SIT KYLE down, and give him the "father/son" talk, and tell HIM to knock it off..I understand why sponsors are loving this, but as an owner,is this the press you want your team to have??? REALLY?????

YES,Nascar needed to punish Richard, but NASCAR NEEDED TO PUNISH BUSCH AS WELL...AS HE STARTED THIS CRAP WHEN HE WAS "TAPPING RICHARDS DRIVER" AFTER THE RACE,because HE beat KYLE fair and square.....I AM DONE WITH WHINE BUTT BUSCH....

The fact is NO ONE WOULD MESS"The Intimidator" EXCEPT RICKY RUDD on or off the track. SR would surely get you the next time around and Nascar did nothing about it.

Oh BTW---is this the press you want your team to have??? REALLY????? ---Yup it sure is, any press BAD OR GOOD sponsor love. That's money in the bank. ALL YOU HAVE READ IS KYLE, love it or lump it, doesn't make a bit of a difference. Did you think Kyle would be thrown out of NASCAR.
I had to run out to the mall last night and 3 young male adults was talking about Nascar. I had to listen. I think Kyle just got himself a couple of young fans, but what really surprised me was the fact that they even heard about NASCAR. Nascar not very popular in Northern NJ. Most don't even know what Nascar is. I must admit, it is getting better. Still nothing on our
Sport pages about Nascar. Kyle made it tho. LoL

Isn't this what NASCAR wants. NY Fans.
South NJ loves racing and still there are rumors about going chapter 11, I don't think they will. Rally has caught on in a big way in SJersey. This should help them out

All of the news that Nascar can get BAD OR GOOD will benefit Nascar.

Dale Sr., I didn't watch NASCAR when he was around. (thank goodness) I could never follow a driver like that :(.... never liked his driving style. Who's to say why he had so many fans. Guess some people like that kind of stuff. :( If drivers have to resort to those kind of tactics for a WIN ..... No thanks! Give me a "clean" driver any day. Someone who is respected on the track. To get respect, you have to give respect..... that's not Kyles way. Hey, I was a Rudd fan so he set the guidelines for me. He always race ya clean unless you gave him a reason.... then look out.

I agree.... NASCAR loves all the Good or Bad publicity. Sometimes it's kinda sad, cus in this case Kyle really should have been penalized, but he wasn't. Oh wait..... he's already on probation so what was NASCAR to do???

Kyle Busch (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/sports/motor-racing/kyle-busch-PESPT000009538.topic) has a problem.

He has a problem with Kevin Harvick (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/sports/motor-racing/kevin-harvick-PESPT000009547.topic). He has a problem driving on city streets, going 83 mph faster than the posted speed limit. He has a problem keeping any sort of gentleman's decorum on the race track, assuming he has a free pass to play bumper cars with anybody who gets in his way.

Busch is like a 2-year-old without adult supervision. His owner, Joe Gibbs (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/sports/joe-gibbs-PESPT002554.topic), certainly isn't up for the task. And neither are folks like Brian France and Mike Helton from NASCAR (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/sports/motor-racing/nascar-15039007.topic), who have given Busch a "probation" for some of his antics.

But a NASCAR probation is much like giving a little one a two-minute time out in the corner of the room. It's largely ineffective.

In the absence of anybody willing to step up, Richard Childress decided that corporal punishment was necessary when Busch tapped one of Childress' trucks on the cool-down lap after the Camping World Truck Series race last weekend.

Childress, 65, took his rings off and started beating on Busch, all of 26.

Childress has been docked $150,000 for his actions. It's probably deserved, since fists are usually not the recommended method of addressing conflict issues.
But there is a reason why most of the NASCAR Nation is celebrating the moment. Childress was man enough to stand up to the punkish Busch, something that Gibbs or NASCAR should have done a long time ago. Busch's behavior has been a point of contention in the NASCAR garage for years.

"I think there is part of your personality that is there at the beginning of your career and goes all the way through," Jeff Gordon (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/sports/motor-racing/jeff-gordon-PESPT008449.topic) once told me. "You can't change it. It is who you are."

Gibbs and NASCAR have let too many incidents slide, empowering Busch every step of the way. Gibbs _ who once had a reputation as a no-nonsense coach in the NFL (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/sports/football/national-football-league-ORSPT000007.topic) (apparently those standards don't apply in NASCAR) should have parked Busch for a week or so to let him think about the consequences of his actions. Helton had the same authority to do as much.

So Childress was left on his own. He didn't hesitate when Busch bumped rookie Joey Coulter (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/sports/motor-racing/joey-coulter-PESPT000009703.topic). He had already warned Busch to leave his expensive cars and trucks alone after Busch wrecked Harvick in Darlington a few weeks ago in an infamous post-race incident.
Enough is enough.

"I can relate to Richard Childress' frustration and motivation behind punching Kyle Busch because of all my years spent as a crew chief and my 11 years in the broadcast booth," said Larry McReynolds, SPEED/FOX Sports analyst and former crew chief for Richard Childress Racing/

"We all preach this but I've probably preached it the loudest — you don't use your race cars or race trucks for retaliation. They're so delicate and so expensive to repair. I think Richard just had enough of it."

I think a lot of people have had enough of it.

But apparently not Helton nor Gibbs.

Somebody else had to play the role of Kindergarten Cop and deal with The Problem. Richard Childress was up to the task.

Jack Roush drew a few laughs after his team's NASCAR Nationwide victory, when he was asked his view of the fine handed down to fellow owner Richard Childress. Childress was fined $150,000 earlier this month for an altercation with Kyle Busch at Kansas Speedway. Childress was upset that Busch bumped into Joey Coulter on the cool-down lap after a race. "It was pretty high," Roush said about the fine. "I guess that pretty much puts the nail in the coffin of, 'Have at it, guys.' Maybe that was a boy and a man. I am not sure. Maybe that is different than the boys having at it. Kyle has been pretty rough on my cars over a period of time and for Richard to stand up for himself was OK," Roush said.(Associated Press (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/motor/2011-06-18-489434733_x.htm))(6-19-2011)
