Martinsville would like new spring date: Clay Campbell, track president of Martinsville Speedway and he said he would like to have a new date for this spring race (the track had a mid-April date for a number of years until moving up earlier in the schedule in 2007). Here's what he said: "March, it's a tough time period here, so yes, I'm talking to see if there's any chance of something being done (spring date moved). I don't know if there is. Years ago we were the last week of April. That's a good time of the year around here. I know NASCAR has a tough time juggling the schedule around because if they move one (date), it takes two to move. I understand that, and I understand that NASCAR has issues, too. It's not an easy thing to do, and I'd say the chances are slim of any movement happening, but I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't try to improve what we've got here.'' Of course, there could be a good bit of movement to the schedule next year if the legal issues around Kentucky Motor Speedway get resolved and Bruton Smith moves a Cup date there. Also, International Speedway Corp., wants a second date for Kansas Speedway but has not said from what track it will take it from. ISC owns Martinsville Speedway. Certainly, there could be a good bit of changes to the schedule next year and this is about the time of the year that NASCAR officials begin working on the next year's schedule.(Virginian Pilot)(3-29-2010)
I hope Marty gets a new date.

Well, there's Bristol in August ;)
Late Spring or Summer would be good. :)

They need to put Phoenix during the winter months.....that would be a "smart" move, wouldn't you think.....LOL~ and push Bristol and Martinsville back a few weeks. But,HEY...who am I??? LOL

NO summer race at Martinsville unless they put up lights, PLEASE! Would be WAY too hot!! ;) That one NW race there in July a couple of years ago was miserable!

Sometime in mid- to late- April would be perfect for MVS! Their current date is just a few weeks too early...

Yeah, a summer race would be too hot. But a night race would work.... I like night races

I've never understood why Martinsville doesn't have lights... short track race at night is as good as it gets!! :D

I could probably see Martinsville getting a new date in mid to late April.

I think we are going to see some shuffling on the schedule next year anyway... probably going to be some major changes -- Kentucky will likely get a race, 2nd race to Kansas, couple of tracks going to lose a race, etc.

Kentucky getting a cup race???

As long as they drop the lawsuit (and it appears that they will), NASCAR has told Bruton Smith he can move a race from one of his tracks to Kentucky... Bruton is pretty confident that there WILL be a race in Kentucky in 2011.

It is a good track, but I think he's going to take a race from ATLANTA to do it, and I really like Atlanta too!

Personally, I would not be at all disappointed if most of the tracks that had 2 races. lost there 2nd race. I'd like to see more tracks added to the schedule. ;)

I like that most of the tracks near me have 2 races... ;) Makes it easier to get to at least one of them!

IMO- we need more short track races so I wouldn't get rid of them..... most 1.5 tracks don't need a 2nd race.

Milwaukee Mile lost there race and NASCAR added Road America to the schedule. I heard that they have sold 100,000 tickets (so far for that weekend). WOW!!!!! I don't know how much truth there is to that but that's fantastic. Great move by NASCAR:D

I agree about the small tracks~More action,and more excitement,MHO~

I was so upset when Milwaukee Mile lost their dates,so many memories there as a child~

I've never been to Road American, but my parents have, and they say the track is fantastic....and for the tickets, wouldn't suprise me,LOTS of Nascar fans in Wisconsin, too bad we can't get a cup race here....

If that's true, Road America needs a Sprint Cup race... most Cup races don't sell 100,000 tickets, especially this far in advance.

I'm telling you...Wisonsinites LOVE NASCAR...I wish they would try it at least....I KNOW THEY WOULD SELL OUT...Most dirt tracks are sold out,as well as asphalt tracks on a weekly basis...There are tracks from north to south in WI,and East to West....

That would be GREAT! As far as I'm concerned, I'd love to see them add more road courses to the schedule.

Jenny, Yes!!! That's always been on my wish list .... going to a road course. When we heard that Road America got a race, I got super excited.

I would have preferred that it was the cup race over NW, but thankfully there will only be just a few of cup drivers for that race. :D

Short tracks are my favorite, but road coarses are #2 for me. I think there should be about 5 a year with one in the chase. And 10 or more short track races.

Ditto that!!!! there definitely should be one in the chase.

I'd like to think so.
I think it's a great weekend for the NW race. The less CUP dominance the better. ;)
I stopped buying Chicagoland tix (for the 2nd yr in a row) cus there's way tooooo many cuppies in the series. When they stop letting them run for the Championship I'll be back to the track and watch on TV.

So for me/us it's a perfect weekend. :D

Ahh..DeeDee,I need your imput over at RFR~ I started a thread about Cup drivers racing in NW and cup...LOL~

Seems most only watch because CUP drivers are in it~I wish they wouldn't allow cup drivers to compete for points as well, and to be honest, wish they couldn't race agains the NW and truck regulars....

I'd watch if cup drivers weren't in the series, and I am an Edwards fan~I'd rather see an up and comer win, than the same ole, same ole,Busch,Edwards,Harvick,etc...

Amen Jenny!!!!!
I have a very strong opinion on this subject. It's pitiful to watch them kill that series.... a lessor series that they have NO business running full time. I don't have a problem with them running some races. I agree with you, they shouldn't get points. If they have to race let them race for just the Win/Trophy. Keep the money in the series.

Sorry about getting off the subject.

Not only that, but some of the Cup drivers feel that NW-only guys should just roll over for them, and that's what makes me angry the most. Hello guys, you were once in their shoes!
